Conway, Arkansas Demographic Synopsis (effective 03-12-07)

The mid year 2006 “special census” placed Conway’s population at 52,430. Projected growth is projected at 2,500-3,000 additional residents annually. The estimated population of Conway currently is 55,000. Besides being considered one of the fastest growing cities in the state, Conway is the largest city in Faulkner County and is the seventh largest city in Arkansas. Additional key demographics follow: approximately 23,000 households, median age is 27, 40% of population has a bachelor’s degree or higher (Conway is considered the state’s third most educated city in Arkansas), and median household income is $53,138. The projected population of Conway by 2010 is 65,000 and the projected population for Faulkner County by 2010 is 130,000.

Including the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) there are three colleges within the city limits: UCA offers programs up to a doctorate degree and the other two are private colleges and offer bachelor degrees (Hendrix College and Central Baptist College). There are 15 public schools and 2 private schools within the city limits. Police Department staffing includes 104 authorized sworn and 22 civilians: totaling 126 total authorized personnel. On March 19, 2005, CPD was awarded the coveted international law enforcement accreditation status sponsored by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Only three municipal police agencies in Arkansas (of 300 police departments) have attained this accredited status. Currently the Police Department operating budget is $8.5 million dollars.

The City of Conway is 40 square miles and has in excess of 150 housing subdivisions and growing!  Little Rock is 25 miles south of Conway. Approximately 35% of Faulkner County residents commute to Little Rock.

Racial diversity consists of 84% white and 12% African American.
